My name is Daniel Zeller and I am the group leader of the Systemic Neurophysiology Lab. As a neurologist at the University Hospital Würzburg, my duties are centered within the classic triad of clinical practice, academic research, and teaching. This is both a challenge and a joy, since the diversity of tasks and people – may it be patients, colleagues, or students – ensures that monotony never sets in.
Consistent with my clinical main specialization as a neurophysiologist, my research focuses on systemic neurophysiology. I like the systemic approach quite a lot as it allows translation from the lab to clinics and vice versa. Apart from describing brain function and behavior, our techniques allow us to modulate or to interfere with brain processes so that we can draw causal conclusions or even enhance (hopefully beneficial) neuroplastic changes. This is really fascinating.
Aside from my academic path, I like to play the piano and the organ. During my time in high school I completed training as a church musician. As a great complement, I am lucky to be part of “Danny Cellar & the Sharp Waves”, our clinic band. I love spending time with my family, playing soccer (nonprofessional ;-), gardening, and reading.
